Life with Diabetes is an app to help
people with Type 2 Diabetes understand
and manage their condition.

About

The Life with Diabetes app has been designed for people recently diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes to help them understand their condition, and to help make changes to diet and exercise in order to control the disease and lead a healthy life.

It is not intended as a comprehensive medical guide to diabetes, or a technical monitoring app. Instead, the content and the interactive features are designed to guide users to make positive changes to their diet and exercise behaviours, to limit the effects of the disease.

Content

When you are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes there is a lot of information to take in about how best to manage your health. It can be difficult to know where to start when it comes to changing your diet and lifestyle.

LwD has been designed to help you with this. You can use it from first diagnosis. The LwD app is available anyplace, anytime for you to use.

There are 5 main sections to the Life with Diabetes app:

Fast Facts

A reference section full of useful information on type 2 diabetes. It’s easy to search for a topic or scroll through the facts to find out more about diabetes and how a healthy diet and exercise can help you manage it.

Food Diary

Record what you eat and drink, and get feedback and analysis on how balanced your diet is. You can set targets to make simple changes to your eating habits, and save your diary so you can go back to see how you are doing.

Activity Advisor

Find out how active you are. The Activity Advisor will work out your current activity levels, help you set targets if you need to be more active and give you ideas of what you can do. There is also a diary to help you keep track of your daily activity.

Weight

Being a healthy weight is important if you have diabetes and this section has tips and information to help you achieve it.

Quick Quiz

Test your knowledge of type 2 diabetes, healthy eating and exercise with the fun Quick Quiz. There are lots of different sets of questions to dip in and out of, and you’ll get feedback on your answers.

For Health Professionals

Diet and exercise are the cornerstones of the management of type 2 diabetes but modifying these behaviours can be very challenging for patients.

Patients report that they feel overwhelmed by the amount of information they receive when they are diagnosed, they often say they don’t know where to start in terms of making appropriate lifestyle changes, and even for those who do attend structured education programmes, many say they struggle to retain all the information they receive.

The LwD program was developed with patients to be an easy-to-understand, accessible resource to help them overcome these difficulties. The aim of LwD is to promote autonomy, self-evaluation, decision-making and self-management skills in relation to diet and physical activity and, so, to empower people with type 2 diabetes to take ownership of their condition.

It is available as an app for Apple iPhone and iPad, and Android devices. An older version can also be downloaded for Windows or Mac.

Patients will be able to access it at their convenience, allowing them to schedule educational activities around their existing lifestyle, in their own time, when they are on the go or in the comfort of their own home.
